{"id":3150,"date":"2024-11-11T20:41:47","date_gmt":"2024-11-11T19:41:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pierre-le-cycliste.fr\/?p=3150"},"modified":"2024-11-11T20:41:47","modified_gmt":"2024-11-11T19:41:47","slug":"guerre-14-18-jour-5-peronne-saint-quentin-75-km","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pierre-le-cycliste.fr\/index.php\/2024\/11\/11\/guerre-14-18-jour-5-peronne-saint-quentin-75-km\/","title":{"rendered":"Guerre 14-18 &#8211; jour  5 &#8211; P\u00e9ronne &#8211; Saint Quentin &#8211; 75 km"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Parti \u00e0 8h15 apr\u00e8s un bon petit-d\u00e9jeuner servi par l&rsquo;auberge de jeunesse,<\/p>\n<p>il crachine, mais cela ne va pas durer, et j&rsquo;arrive \u00e0 Saint Quentin vers 15h, sous un temps un peu incertain, mais, \u00e0 part le d\u00e9but de journ\u00e9e, brumeux, la journ\u00e9e a \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e8che et j&rsquo;ai m\u00eame vu le soleil.<\/p>\n<p>Route tr\u00e8s vallonn\u00e9e, mais des pentes moins fortes que ces deux dernier jours, et j&rsquo;arrive bien en forme.<\/p>\n<p>Travers\u00e9e de vastes \u00e9tendues de champs, mais rien de monotone, le relief et la travers\u00e9e de nombreux villages rythment la route. <\/p>\n<p>Grande pause au tunnel de Riqueval.<\/p>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s Bony, sommet de la boucle du jour, au nord, je passe \u00e0 300 m\u00e8tres de la source de l&rsquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Escaut\">Escaut<\/a>, fleuve de 355 km de long, qui traverse trois pays (France, Belgique et Pays-Bas), avant de se jeter en mer du Nord. <\/p>\n<p>Je termine par 9 kilom\u00e8tres de bonne v\u00e9loroute le long du canal de Saint Quentin.<\/p>\n<p>J&rsquo;arrive au monuments aux morts. britannique (North Midlands) attaqua la ligne Hindenburg. L&rsquo;assaut sur la position Siegfried permit \u00e0 une compagnie du 6\u00e8me bataillon du North Staffordshire Regiment (137\u00e8me brigade) et un d\u00e9tachement des Royal Engineers de saisir le pont de Riqueval (dernier pont intact sur le canal de Saint-Quentin), point cl\u00e9 des d\u00e9fenses allemandes. Ce qui d\u00e9bouchera sur la derni\u00e8re phase de l&rsquo;offensive victorieuse des alli\u00e9s qui se terminera par la signature de l&rsquo;armistice le 11 novembre 1918. <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bataille_de_la_ligne_Hindenburg\">La bataille de la Ligne Hindenburg<\/a>, qui d\u00e9buta le 18 septembre 1918, fut une bataille majeure de l&rsquo;Offensive des Cent-Jours qui contribua \u00e0 l&rsquo;issue de la guerre. Les troupes canadiennes et britanniques, en avant-garde, lanc\u00e8rent cette attaque contre la ligne allemande, poursuivant l&rsquo;utilisation massive des chars telle qu&rsquo;elle avait \u00e9t\u00e9 entam\u00e9e au cours de la bataille d&rsquo;Amiens. La ventilation du souterrain de Riqueval ne permettant pas d&rsquo;\u00e9vacuer les gaz d&rsquo;\u00e9chappement des p\u00e9niches, celles-ci doivent obligatoirement \u00eatre remorqu\u00e9es par un engin appel\u00e9 \u00ab toueur \u00bb, bateau-treuil qui tracte une rame de p\u00e9niches (32 en moyenne) dans le souterrain. \u00c0 l&rsquo;origine, le premier toueur, nomm\u00e9 Rougaillou, \u00e9tait m\u00fb par des chevaux dispos\u00e9s en man\u00e8ge sur son pont, ce man\u00e8ge actionnant un treuil. Un second toueur lui a succ\u00e9d\u00e9, m\u00fb par la vapeur. Finalement, c\u2019est l\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 qui, \u00e0 partir de 1906, a r\u00e9gl\u00e9 le probl\u00e8me de la fum\u00e9e dans la vo\u00fbte. Sa vitesse horaire moyenne est de 2,5 km\/h. Le bateau se fixe sur une cha\u00eene de 8 km de long qui repose au fond du canal, fix\u00e9e \u00e0 chaque extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 du souterrain. La masse totale de la cha\u00eene atteint 96 tonnes. Pendant la travers\u00e9e du tunnel qui durait deux \u00e0 trois heures, les mariniers, lib\u00e9r\u00e9s du travail de gouverne du bateau, se r\u00e9unissaient pour manger des cr\u00eapes ou de la friture, et jouer de la musique. Le tunnel de Riqueval est l&rsquo;un des seuls endroits au monde o\u00f9 l&rsquo;on pratique encore le syst\u00e8me du touage ou remorquage des p\u00e9niches \u00e0 la cha\u00eene.<\/p><\/div>\n<div
